NAFOWA Donates Hospital Equipment
The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) yesterday donated hospital equipment worth thousands of naira to the emergency ward of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada.
The National President of the Association, Mary Iyah Badeh, who presented the items to the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Peter Alabi, said the donation was part of their humanitarian service.
The items included blood pressure measuring apparatus, stethoscopes, nebulizers, glucometers, Patella Hammer and some relief material. She said the association is willing to further assist the hospital.
Mrs. Badeh said the association had established a cancer screening centre, equipped with ultra-modern equipments for all cancer related diseases, adding that patients of the hospital can also access the services of the centre at the 108 Nigerian Air Force hospitals, Abuja.
Responding, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Peter Alabi, said the influx of accident victims into the casualty unit of the hospital is increasing daily, adding that a new trauma unit is being constructed.
He said most patients from the rural areas overstay in the hospital because of lack of money to settle their bills, adding that the hospital has set up an Indigent Patient Fund meant to assist patients who could not afford their medical expenses.
