Nelson Mandela, South Africa's former president and anti-apartheid hero, has been admitted to hospital with a recurrence of a lung infection.
President Jacob Zuma's office said in a statement on Thursday morning that the 94-year-old Mr Mandela went to hospital just before midnight on Wednesday and that he was receiving the "best possible expert medical treatment and comfort".
The statement said Mr Mandela was being treated for a "recurrence of his lung infection" and that doctors were ensuring he had the best possible treatment.
