Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State has finally sent a list of nominees to be appointed commissioners to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening bringing an end to months of lobbying, speculations and running of the affairs of government without an executive council.
Reading the list of the nominees before the floor of the state Assembly, the majority leader of the House, Hon. Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa Eggon-west constituency, the 17 member list includes six from the dissolved cabinet which includes Mr. Sunny Agassi, Lands and Survey; Dr. Emmanuel Akaabe, Health; Husseini Abubakar, Education; Mohammed Danazumi, Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs; Samuel Meshi, Science and Technology; and Engr. Mohammed Wada.
The list of nominees however did not come without corresponding tremors surrounding surprise inclusion of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Hamza Elayo Mohammed, whose appointment was terminated alongside those of the commissioners and special advisers over two months ago. Another curious inclusion on the list is that of the current Head of the Civil service of the state, Dr. Amos Akawu.
Deliberating on the floor of the Assembly, the speaker of the House, Hon. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, gave the nominees till today to submit their curriculum vitae. He further directed that the screening would commence Monday next week to last through Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a former Special Adviser to Governor Almakura on Food Security, Alhaji Abubakar Gada Mohammed has commended the governor for choosing technocrats and seasoned bureaucrats who can easily key into his transformation agenda and deliver quality service to the people of the state.
He said people like the former House of Assembly member, Hon. Innocent Lagi, is a laudable choice given his pedigree and political dexterity.
