Dangote Gives N10m Scholarships To Benue Students


Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, yesterday presented a cheque of N10 million scholarships to indigent students of Mbayion community in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue state.
Mbayion is the host community of the Gboko plant of Dangote Cement.

The scholarship is an annual event, which is indicative of the fact that Dangote group has regards for the citizens and has cultivated good relationship with the community in which the business is situated.

Performing the ceremony in Gboko yesterday, the Gboko plant Director, Mr. Jacinto Leyva Miranda, explained that the scheme “is basically designed to foster good working relationship with the host community” and said that the gesture was to enable the students acquire qualitative education.

Miranda said the company has put in place a youth motorcycle scheme for the Ipav, Yandev, Gboko town and Mbayion communities, and that a farmer’s fertiliser initiative, as well as over twenty classroom blocks and examination halls were initiated to reduce abject poverty.

Benue state Governor Gabriel Suswam said “government is extremely proud of the gesture, noting that Dangote Group has rejuvenated the town and created abundant job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.
