Life has been miserable for Mallam Ibrahim Umar, the father of a four-year-old boy, Zubairu, who was found dead in an uncompleted building in TudunMallamaiFutua, Katsina State since Monday, April 15, 2013.
In a move that suggested ritual activities in the ancient town, residents said the lifeless body of the boy was abandoned in an uncompleted building a few metres away from his father’s house.
It was learnt that on that fateful day, little Zubairu, as is the tradition of boys his age, played with his peers on the street and was at his best when suddenly, he where to be found on the playground.
“After a long search, we found him dead in an uncompleted building with his nose and mouth stuffed with cotton wool even as his stomach was burnt with substance suspected to be acid,” his traumatised father said.
Umar, 50, said he was informed that an unidentified boy presumed to be about 13 years old lured his son with buying him sweets before taking him away “only for us to see his mangled body after serious search.
“I was out for my business when the mother called to say that they did not know Zubairu’s whereabouts and that they had searched all the possible places they thought he could be but to no avail. I instantly made all the necessary contacts and asked them to continue the search before I return.
“It was while I was on my way home for a possible next line of action that I was told that his body had been found in an uncompleted building not too far away from my house”, he added.
He told our correspondent that the matter had been reported to the Funtua command of Nigerian Police, noting, “I have since left everything to God who I am sure will judge the evil men and their evil ways”.
Although policemen at the Funtua Division declined to comment, a source in the station confirmed that the division was investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death, noting that the incidence suggest spiritual killing.
