"Killer Nurse" Blessing Umeh, Nabbed For Giving Banned Vaccine

A female fake nurse, who had been making some cool cash for herself while immunizing children with a banned meningitis vaccine, is cooling her heels in the Nyanya Police Station where she is telling the police how she got into the evil trade.

The lady who gave her name as Blessing Umeh, but had a document which bore Glory Ode, said she got into the ‘business’ to sustain herself and feed her six children.

She was arrested at the MOPOL Barracks in Nyanya, an Abuja suburb, trying to sell the banned Mencevax ACN vaccine, a product which the federal government has banned since 2000.

According to the Executive Secretary of FCT Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed who made the disclosure Tuesday, the lady collected N100 for every immunization and had already vaccinated more than 70 people.

Mohammed further disclosed that only the National Primary Health Care Development Agency under the ministry of Health was authorized to purchase and administer the vaccine at no cost to the public.

“During the first day of this national immunisation day in the FCT, we found out that this woman was collecting money from people and vaccinating them with the CSM vaccine, which has been stopped. We stopped using the vial for a very long time - 2000.

“Nobody has the right to purchase vaccines in Nigeria except the National Primary Health Care Development Agency under the Ministry of Health and distributed to us”, he said.

He advised Nigerians to be wary of quack vaccinators and to look out for the approved vaccinators, whom he said, were always on assignment in groups.
