Kogi LG Poll Results: PDP Sweeps Chairmanship Seats

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has swept all the 21 local government area councils in the state, even as a legal lacuna has been created over the 14 councillors elected on the platform of the opposition parties as their parties had earlier announced a boycott.

Declaring the results in Lokoja, the electoral officers, who doubles as the returning officers as stipulated by the Kogi State Electoral Act 2004, said the candidates, having scored the highest number of votes, were declared winners in their various LGAs.

The chairman of Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Abraham Olaniran, in his speech, announced that the results of the election were collated at the units and local government collation centres in line with the state’s electoral laws.

The winners are Saliu Adaviroiku, Adavi LGA; Labaran Ibrahim, Kogi LGA; Aloysius Okino, Ajaokuta LGA; Ahmed Ogembe, Okene LGA; Aliyu Usman, Lokoja LGA, and Hassan Yusuf, Okehi LGA.

Others are Funsho Daniyan Mopa-Muro LGA, Fimihan Akerejola, Ogori/Magongo LGA; Labaran Yahaya, Omala LGA; Magida Umar, Bassa LGA, and  Muhammed Ali from Governor Idris Wada’s LGA, Dekina.

The remaining local government areas where the PDP also recorded landslide victories were Yagba West, Yagba East, Ofu , Ijumu, Idah and Ibaji.

While it was observed that there was generally low turnout of voters in most of the councils, the election was peaceful across the 21 LGAs with isolated cases of clashes among political parties.
