The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have arrested one Israel Justice Ukaegbu for allegedly impersonating the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Alex Badeh, on the popular social networking site, Facebook.
The suspect who was using the account name ‘AS Badeh’ with a portrait photo of the CAS as profile picture, had been using the account to interact with unsuspecting members of the public and promising unsuspecting victims of possible recruitment into the NAF for a fee before his arrest.
Parading the suspect at the NAF headquarters in Abuja, yesterday, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, said the suspect who was arrested at No. 3, Azikiwe Road, Aba, Abia State, connived with an information and communication specialist, one Wisdom Raphael Onyebuenyi, currently at large, to commit the crime.
Ukaegbu who expressed remorse for his action and blamed it on the difficult economic situation in Aba, said he did it after falling victim of a fake NAF recruitment agent who defrauded him of the sum of N30,000 to get him enlisted into the force, but however denied extorting money from people.
While pleading for forgiveness, he said, “The allegations against me are true. God has already forgiven me. They should also forgive me,”
On what will be the fate of the fake CAS, Anas said he will be handed over to the police for appropriate action while advicing members of the public to beware of fake internet sites.
