Al-Makura tenders apology over new chiefdoms

Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has apologised to the state House of Assembly for announcing the creation of new chiefdoms in the state, without its approval.
The state Local Government Law 2009 (as amended) provides that the House approves the creation of new chiefdoms before the governor can announce them. But Al-Makura, late last year announced the creation of 10 more chiefdoms, and urged the Assembly to approve them.
But the House, in a statement by Mohammed Baba Ibakau, House Committee Chairman on Information, rose against the creation, declaring it “null and void.” The House said the governor violated the provisions of the Local Government Law 2009.
At its sitting yesterday, the House deliberated on the letter of apology, and accepted it. The  lawmakers then proceeded to receive a letter from the governor on the creation of the new chiefdoms.
The lawmakers also resolved and adopted an advice by Mohammed Baba Ibaku, House Committee Chairman on Information, seeking the appearance of Yusuf Musa, the General Manager of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service to explain why their statement against the creation was not aired.
The new chiefdoms in question are: Chun Mada as first class, and Nunku and Ngah, as second class, as well as Yakanajie, Tunga, Gurku, Ara, Ribi, Adoji and Kadarko, as third class.
